dRxLaX
A downloadable game
Demo only version
Continuously rolling demo loop of 21+ years old multiplayer matches.
Please note that the transparent modifier volumes that this game uses, seemingly are not supported by any emulator. They look really nice on hardware though, as one can tell from the trailer.
This shows what the finished game will look like.
START+A on the first controller to exit the loop.
Press Y at any time to 'degauss' the game ;)
D-pad right advances to next demo.
D-pad left goes back to previous demo.
I fully intended to restore the multiplayer part of the game to this version, but I'll probably need a day or two more to get int working properly. I know it will work well, because the demos that play run on raw previously recorded controller input.
Multiplayer version
I've supplied a version from early september 2024 of the game with working multiplayer. The "interface" is a little rustic. If one controller is attached, then the game spawns 7 passive ships for you to shoot at. If two or more controllers are attached, then an equivalent number of ships are spawned and controlled by the attached controllers.
Controls are as follows:
- A-button: fire shots
- B-button: place mines
- Y-button: convert offensive energy to health
- X-button: convert health to offensive energy
- Stick: point in the direction you want to steer your ship in
- Right trigger: accelerate the ship
- Left trigger: increase size in order to harvest much more offensive energy (also slows you down a lot)
Gameplay hints:
- You need offensive energy to both shoot and place mines (unfortunately the indicators for offensive energy isn't in this version)
- The rate at which you harvest offensive energy relates to the size of your ship, squared
- Being big gets you lots of energy, but also makes you really vulnerable
- If you hold down the B-button until the dark shape inside of the trailing mine is gone, the mine will slide at 90% of your current speed instead of stopping when you release it.
- The game has excellent rumble support ;)

Beautiful looking demo. I feel like I need more context though for sure though. Looks like fun to try out with a few friends!
